My main focus of late is to create more peaceful ocean and water paintings for my Serenity Collection. To that end, I've made several very quick thumbnail sketches in my sketchbook as ideas come to me.
My latest painting, "Morning Tide" is very minimal in design, using the concept of "less is more." I deliberately left out a lot of detail in the rocks, providing definition only at the focal point where the waves splash up against them (see detail photo below), and letting the rest fade into a semi-abstract indication of land and mist.
"Morning Tide" 12" x 12" © 2013 Barbara Blair
Acrylic painting on wood-cradled masonite panel.
No frame required, ready to hang.
Painted finish on sides to match image.
Here's a scanned close-up image showing details of the rocks. The colors are slightly different, since the full image above was taken with my camera.
With the lower two-thirds of the painting being calm water, the eye is drawn to the distant rocks and beyond to the horizon fading into the mist. My aim was to draw the viewer into the image to experience the peace and silence, and be transported to a more meditative place in their mind. The soft blues, blue-greens, lavender and muted browns add to the effect.
I welcome custom commissions for a similar image in a larger square or rectangular format - 24", 30", 36" or more, which would magnetize the calming, stress-reducing effects of this painting in any residential or commercial environment. If you'd like information and pricing regarding custom sizes, please email me or call 760-966-1295.
