The purpose of my artwork is to help relieve stress, whether it’s a scene that transports the viewer to a more peaceful, meditative place in their mind - or a whimsical, joyful image that allows them to lighten up and have fun - or a piece with inspiring words that touches the heart. 

The sea is my chosen subject matter as it speaks to me on a deep emotional level.  It provides an escape from the stress and pressures of “civilization,” and fulfills the need to go beyond to something new, exotic and far away. 

My paintings are a visual mini vacation that can be experienced at any time. They also attempt to convey the magic, mystery and spiritual qualities of nature that are underlying everything, yet frequently appear to be hidden or missed as we rush through life.

The ocean provides a profound sense of calm, stillness and contemplation, a way to rebalance and renew the human spirit.  This theme is explored in my serenity series of land, sea and sky images, which are expansive, minimal and slightly abstract.

The poems in simple rhyme that accompany many of my paintings tell their story in a light-hearted, playful style.

BIOGRAPHY

Barbara Blair is a painter, a poet and a holistic EFT practitioner who has worked in creative fields all her life. She has also had a love affair with the sea since childhood.  In between her creative pursuits, she spent a year living on sailboats and sailing a third of the way around the world, visiting many places.

Professionally, Barbara has over 30 years of art and design experience, with an on-going interest in wellness and providing a healing quality to her work. She practiced residential interior design for more than 20 years, later becoming a decorative artist creating custom designs and painted finishes on the walls of numerous homes.  

After working for a couple of years for a successful and internationally known fine artist in which she learned a great deal about the art world, Barbara was inspired to create her own fine art business.  Poetry is a more recent addition to Barbara's creative ventures, and now complements many of her paintings.

She resides in Oceanside, CA in north San Diego County, and has lived on the coast in California for more than thirty years.
